As I’ve briefly mentioned in my previous post on breastfeeding, due to Laurent’s rather low birth weight I was advised to supplement his feeds with some FM in the initial period. As such, he has taken on bottle feeding quite well.
While bottle feeding allows daddy to take on night duties and allows us to leave Laurent with his grandpa and grandma when necessary, going out with expressed breast milk (EBM) can be quite a chore!
We’ll need to bring his feeding bottles, bottle warmer and EBM in cooler bag.
Hence, when ATMC approached me to review the Yoomi feeding system, I pounced on the opportunity to do so!
Yoomi is an award-winning self-warming baby bottle which is capable of warming up baby’s milk to the temperature of breast milk in just ONE minute.
Feeding EBM with Yoomi is extremely convenient as Yoomi boasts the following features:
1) Portability
You just have to bring along the bottle, filled with milk for a single feed and the milk gets warmed up when the charged warmer is activated at the press of a button. No additional bottle warmer required.
You save space in your (already bulky) diaper bag and energy from having to carry that additional weight!

2) Fast warming up
Yoomi is able to warm up milk in the bottle in just 60 seconds, a huge difference from the conventional bottle warmer.
The one I have at home warms up chilled EBM to the right temperature in 7 mins while the portable one takes 5 mins. Mummies will know, every minute between a hungry baby and his milk can make a huge difference.
3) The right temperature
One of the biggest worries of pumping mums is overheating of EBM when warming up the milk. This will destroy vital nutrients in the milk and the damage is irreversible.
With Yoomi, mummies can be rest assured that their precious EBM will warm up to the right temperature, similar to that of breast milk, allowing baby to obtain the necessary nutrients.
4) Anti-colic feature and easi-latch™ teat
Yoomi is also designed with 6 anti-colic vents to minimise colic. Together with its naturally shaped easi-latch™ teat which mimics the shape of mummy’s breast, the Yoomi bottle makes a great feeding bottle!
After knowing all the useful features of the Yoomi feeding system, are you curious about how the self-warming feature works?
This is the Yoomi warmer which warms the milk in the bottle after being ‘charged’.
There are 3 ways to charge the warmer – using a microwave, using a steam steriliser and using the traditional boiling method.
As I didn’t have a microwave at home, I charged the warmer using the boiling method.
The charging process takes 25 mins and I noticed that the button of the warmer turned green when heated.
There will also be a rattling sound in the charged warmer when shaken.
After the 25 mins of charging, the warmer is then left at room temperature for 75 mins to cool down. After which, it is ready to be used!
The amazing thing about the Yoomi warmer is that it can be chilled in the bottle, together with the EBM so you don’t have to keep the warmer separately I stashed the whole bottle into my fridge-to-go since I had to bring along more than 1 serving of EMB when I was out the other day.
It was so convenient to go shopping with Yoomi! Knowing that Laurent only needed 1 feed during the time we were at the mall, I popped the Yoomi bottle into a smaller insulated bottle carrier to keep it chilled. And when Laurent starts to show signs of hunger, I simply had to take out the bottle, press the button, leave the bottle overturned for 1 minute and I’m ready to feed!
No carrying of heavy bottle warmer or fumbling with the warmer and dangerous hot water. This is perfect for mummies going out with baby alone as you can even hold on to baby with 1 hand and warm up his feed with the other hand.
While I enjoy all the amazing feature of the Yoomi system, especially the convenience it provides when it comes to warming up of EBM when I’m out, there are several areas which I wish could be improved.
1) Long preparation time
As I used the boiling method, the total ‘prep time’ to charge the warmer and let it cool down was quite long. But this could be done when I’m free so the warming up during feeding time was considerably fuss free.
2) Heavy bottle due to weight of warmer
Compared to feeding with Laurent’s usual feeding bottle, feeding with Yoomi is quite heavy with the weight of the the warmer in the bottle.
Another thing I would like to share, is that Laurent has been using Dr Brown bottles and the teat shape is rather different from that of Yoomi, so Laurent took a while to get used to drinking from Yoomi.
To conclude my review, I would say this is really a revolutionary and convenient way of warming up EBM!
To really benefit from the convenience of the system, and take advantage of the feature that allows mummies to heat up EBM any time, anywhere, you can consider getting more than 1 warmer since each charge of the warmer only warms up the milk for 1 feed but is able to stay charged till activated. Furthermore, if you use the boiling method, you can charge several warmers together
